Taiyou-Con 2013 Results

BAYMAN

Taiyou-Con was last weekend and I had an absolute blast at this convention! Our newest panels, “Salute to Fanservice” and “Waifu-ism and You” were huge successes and we had loads and loads of fun with everyone who turned out for this convention! Everyone was enlightened with Brian’s BAYMAN story and we even got to meet Cristina Vee, Lauren Landa and Sonny Strait. I even got my chest signed by Chris Guerrero (poor guy never signed anyone’s boobs before and I agreed to change that)! Big, BIG thanks to the guests who were willing to answer our questions and take pics with us!

Panty and Stocking

Matt-Suda looking pretty pumped! You've got no idea how fast my heart was beating at this point! Yes...my chest is still signed! Sonny with Brian's wrenches me and Sonny Project Nailbat with Saeko Bushijima

If you missed us at Taiyou, (while it’s not officially confirmed) me and the others are planning to attend Con-nichiwa this March. However in the meantime, you can watch our Youtube videos on our channel and like us on Facebook. Also, make sure to check out Brian’s (IRONHOOF) blog “Lost in the Overworld” for even more content in between our convention appearances. Once again, big thanks to Taiyou-Con for having us hold panels, Cristina Vee, Chris Guerrero, Lauren Landa and Sonny Strait for the great memories, and especially you guys out there who come to our panels. Without you, we’d just be four guys sitting in a room for hours at a time just talking to ourselves!

Long Overdue Update: A lot of stuff happened…

Been a while since I updated the site, been busy with a lot of stuff…(DOA5 released, editing videos, playing DOA5, getting a new capture device, going online in DOA5, watching anime, playing DOA5 with friends, catching up on movies that I’ve been meaning to see, playing DOA 5 by myself and all sorts of things…like playing DOA5) But I’m gonna hopefully rectify that right now with an update…before I go back and play Dead or Alive 5.

In case you’ve been ignoring the site for the past several weeks of just skipped over the entire first paragraph, Dead or Alive 5 is finally out and I’ve been playing the hell out of that game. In my opinion, it’s the best one in the series. Aside from the fickle net coding at times, the game is very solid. great visuals, tons of unlockables, better story (could still use work with some of the plot holes, but still better) and it makes the previous versions of Dead or Alive all but completely obsolete. I cannot get enough of this game!In collaboration news, I was a guest on ByteSizeGaming’s podcast last week. ByteSizeGaming for those who don’t know is a gaming news site ran by a friend of mine and he and the others over there were gracious enough to have me on their talk show. Check out the link here to watch the podcast and get some insight from a group of gamers about a variety of topics.

Keeping with the theme of Youtube theme; several videos were released on our Youtube channel. The videos we played were Tony Hawk HD, Worms 2: Armageddon, Dead or Alive 5 (surprise surprise),  as well as Mario Party 9. You can either watch each episode at our Youtube channel linked here, or you could watch them all here which I will put up as separate posts later.

Dead or Alive 5 Watch: Mila

Two weeks from today is Dead or Alive 5! While there’s very little else to announce about the game before the release that hasn’t already been announced yet officially by Team Ninja, there is in fact one more character that hasn’t been officially revealed.

A few screens have surfaced before now, but there was recently a video featuring the new character, Mila in a scene in story mode as well as some gameplay featuring her. Her background seems to be that she’s a waitress with an MMA fighting style.

Granted the video’s subtitles and menus are in French, all of the dialogue is in English, so at least we can understand at least half of what’s going on. The game’s story mode is filled with bonus objectives that you can complete during the story which can be seen like a featured tutorial that helps the player learn the game kind of how Dead or Alive Dimensions had for the Nintendo 3DS, allowing players to learn the game while wasting little time delving into the game’s story mode.  Completing these objectives gives you titles like Street Fighter IV or more notably Persona 4 Arena that you can call yourself for other players to see. The more challenges you complete, the more titles and hidden challenges you can unlock which in turn can give you even more titles to name yourself.

The game drops in two weeks on September 25th. Get ready to fight!

EDIT: Litterally the MINUTE I finished writing this, this video was launched!

Project Nailbat Played Weiß Schwarz

Saboten Con was just this past Labor Day weekend and for three days it was home to some interesting things. One of the many things that caught my attention was a card game that I had bought a deck for called Weiß Schwarz.

The concept of the game is that several different series from anime, video games and visual novels can do battle amongst each other. I played the game the other day with an awesome Fate/Zero deck against a Disgaea deck that fellow member Ironhoof had bought. We literally ended up with fights like Irisviel von Einsbern fight Etna and Saber fighting Flone.

The object of the game is to go one on one with your opponent until either they or you level up to Level 4. However, despite the object of the game being to have your opponent rise in levels, the more levels they gain, the more powerful cards that your opponent can play to deal massive damage with and potentially turn the game into their favor.

Weiß Schwarz has been around in japan for a good while now and there’s currently a massive amount of other franchises that you could choose from, including Persona 4, A Certain Magical Index, Lucky Star and many, many more! Unfortunately none of those series aside from the ones that were available at Saboten Con (which were Disgaea, Puella Magi Madoka Magicka and Fate/Zero) have been translated into English yet, but if the game sells well, then we’ll be seeing more and more packs and decks translated soon. In the meantime, you could go onto heartofthecards.com to see translations for all of the cards that are available if you feel like importing them for playing. Otherwise, we’ll all just have to wait until we get more decks like The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Idolm@ster, and Black Rock Shooter translated once the game takes off in the states!

Saboten Con Results

Saboten Con has come and gone, and this year I”d have to say that it was phenomenal. The panels and events were great and even all of our panels had amazing turnouts. Got to see Mary Elizabeth McGlynn and Troy Baker live and had a lot of fun running King of the Otaku and Otaku Jeopardy. Of course we can’t forget all of the Super Nailbat Party Blowout and how much fun that was.  Big thanks to the guys at Saboten Con who let us do the panels, to the contestants that we had participate in our fun and games and to everyone else who joined us for our Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts discussion panels! We really appreciate you all for coming out and we hope to see you next time we’re at a convention.

Saboten Con 2012

Project Nailbat is making a return to Saboten Con in just 14 daysthis year. Take a look at our list of events that we’re gonna be running at the convention and make sure if you’re in the area you come on down and see us!

Project Nailbat Plays…Persona 4 Arena

New video is up. We finally sit down and play the much anticipated Persona 4: Arena! Watch Nailbat go against Matt-suda while he complains about the game is fixed just like all of the others!

Dead or Alive 5 Watch: Opening Declaration Trailer

Perhaps is was due to poor planning on the part of Team Ninja for revealing a new trailer for Dead or Alive 5 the day after Persona 4: Arena gets released, but this completely slipped past me. This trailer looks great, and reveals several characters we’ve been waiting to see announced for the game like Brad Wong and Helena.

And if that wasn’t enough to get you going, the official site finally opened the story page and offers details about all of the past Dead or Alive games and even this sweet relationship chart to see where everyone stands with each other. In just a little over a month from now, the game will be out, so watch the trailer and get hyped!

Tekken Tag Tournament: Xtreme Swimsuit Edition

Looks like Namco is trying to prove to Tecmo that the characters in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 can look good in bikinis and swimsuits just like Tecmo’s characters in Dead or Alive. Only to take it a step further, it looks like the male cast of Tekken is participating as well. If you pre-order Tekken Tag Tournament 2, then you’ll get a bikini pack that comes with over 100 swimsuits you can use to customize your characters with.

Of course…Tecmo recently released this video showcasing a few of the things available to you if you pre-order Dead or Alive 5…

Swapnote Me Maybe

If you like Nintendo, have a 3DS and feel some type of way about Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” (So many people love it, but I’m sure that for every one person who loves it, some one out there is sick of hearing the song 9 times in a row every time they turn on a radio…) Then check out Streetpass Arizona‘s rendition of the song, “Swapnote Me Maybe”

New Video: Tekken 6

The latest video is now up on Project Nailbat’s Youtube channel. This week’s game is Tekken 6…Nailbat vs Mikeymania rematch. The video will be added to the Videos page as well, or you can just watch the new video below.

Rumor: Final Fantasy Versus XIII Is No More(?)

Rumor has it that Square Enix has officially canceled Final Fantasy Versus XIII. According to Kotaku and their sources, the game has been shut down, the team is reassigned to other projects and Square Enix plans to not come right out and say that the game has been canned out of fear for their stock prices falling. Probably so that they can just let the game eventually fall into the back of people’s minds until it’s been forgotten completely.

The newest issue of Game Informer magazine actually has an interesting article about Final Fantasy Versus XIII and one of the bits in the article talked about what went on in the world during the development of Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Some of the things that they had mentioned:

  • Four other Final Fantasy games (Final Fantasy XII, XIII, XIII-2 and XIV) were released
  • Mass Effect 1, 2, 3 AND the extended ending DLC were all released
  • The entirety of Bioshock AND Assassin’s Creed series
  • The entire lifetime of the Playstation 3

The article goes on to show a time table starting from May of 2006 when the game was first announced all the way to June of this year and explains what little we saw from FFvXIII at each month/public gaming event (if we saw anything from the game at all).

To some this might not be news, but there are some who, if this rumor turns out to become true, will be horribly dissapointed at this news. But Square Enix DOES plan to have an announcement ready for September 1st involving Final Fantasy XIII. Now it is possible that the game could just make a name change just like Final Fantasy Agito XIII Final Fantasy Type-0 because unless they go into more detail about the story relation between XIII’s universe and Versus XIII’s universe, there’s really no reason as to why it should be called ‘Versus XIII’ in the first place. Although it’s more than likely that the announcement will be the official announcement for Final Fantasy XIII-3.

1st Video: Super Mario Bros. Wii

If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the first of many videos from Project Nailbat: Project Nailbat Plays… First video is New Super Mario Bros. Wii.  Me and HazMatt play thorough most of World 1 and there’s plenty of “fun” had at the expense of each other.

This video is the first official video of our Youtube channel. If you wanna see some of the other things we have planned, take a look at our teaser trailer below. If you liked either video, like and subscribe to our channel to keep up on any new videos we put up. I’m gonna try to have a new video at least once a week.

Dead or Alive 5 Watch: E3 and Collector’s Edition

I’m actually a bit behind on my DOA 5 Watch, but there is in fact some more news since I last updated. The E3 trailer for the game shows off more of the game as well, as new characters, Kokoro and Sarah Bryant from Virtua Fighter.  On top of that, second build of the game was made available to the attendants at E3 and a tournament was held with the newer build which has seen several changes since the alpha demo was released for the people who pre-ordered Ninja Gaiden 3 (most notably the power moves and Hitomi’s face).

When interviewed about the game by video game news crews like IGN or Gamespot, the man representing Team Ninja and Tecmo Koei didn’t do a very good job at selling the game. At times he seemed to not fully understand what was even in the game, but the videos you can fine online of the tournaments could do all of the work for him anyway. The game looks amazing for an incomplete fighter. Every character has brand new moves in his or her repertoire which makes every fight look like something out of a well-choreographed martial arts movie. IGN Pro League was in charge of the tournament, which hosted several pro DOA tournament players.

But all of that was back at E3. Earlier today Tecmo Koei revealed the Dead or Alive 5 Collector’s Edition. The collector’s edition comes with a hardcover book, soundtrack of the game and a special steel case for the game, all for $79.99. Anyone who pre-orders the game will also get a handful of costumes for free, regardless if it’s for the collector’s edition or the standard edition. Downside to that is that it’s one of those, “based on where you pre-order the game from” deals. Pre-order the game from Gamestop and you’ll get bunny swimsuits for Hitomi, Kasumi and Leifang whereas pre-ordering it from Amazon and you’ll get “DOA Devils”(whatever that is?) swimsuits for Ayane, Tina and Christie.

Later this weekend, some more new characters and possibly a new trailer will be on the DOA 5 main site (according to the DOA 5 Facebook page) So hopefully I’ll be able to continue the Dead or Alive 5 watch from there.

Nintendo 3DS StreetPass Day

Today is the anniversary of Nintendo’s StreetPass Day. For those of you who don’t have a 3DS, StreetPass is a way to trade data from one 3DS to another by being in the same area as someone with another 3DS. It’s used to enhance games like Mario Kart 7, where you can race the ghost data of someone who has the game, or Kid Icarus: Uprising, where you can gain extra weapons from other people who you StreetPass. One year ago, to take advantage of one of the features of the Nintendo 3DS’ features, StreetPass…Nintendo of America created a Meetup event so everyone all over the nation could get together with other 3DS owners and exchange StreetPasses with a large group of people.

To celebrate this here in Arizona, 3DS community StreetPass Arizona, a group dedicated to 3DS meetups and gatherings held an event yesterday to do just that, gather a large group of 3DS owners to exchange StreetPasses, play games together and eat at the local restaurant, Republic Ramen in Tempe, AZ.

As you can see, there was a very high turnout as everyone spent their time meeting new and old friends, Swapnoting and playing games like Kid Icarus: Uprising, Mario Tennis Open and other games. (See if you can pick out which 3DS belongs to me…and no cheating by going to StreetPass Arizona’s Facebook page, where you can like it to keep track and find out about other Streetpass events that are in the Arizona).

3DS XL Announced

Yesterday, a new edition of the 3DS was announced. The 3DS XL is scheduled to be released during sometime in mid august (august 19th) in the U.S. for around $200, with a simultaneous release for New Super Mario Bros. 2 for digital download. Compared to the original system, the 3DS XL as a whole is bigger, has a longer lasting battery as well as larger screens, 90% larger than the original 3DS to be exact.

As awesome as it would be to snag one of these XLs, I just got a 3DS this past Christmas, which still works just fine. Hell it’s practically brand new, so other than having a 3DS with larger screens and a slightly longer battery, there’s no reason as to why I would go out and get one. I like the size of the original 3DS and getting a larger one would make holding it in my pocket more trouble than it’ll be worth. Although considering that it’s $200 for the new system, a price that’s still cheaper than the PS Vita, anyone looking to get one would still be getting a good deal for their money, but if anyone is looking for convienence along with their system, then the original 3DS goes for just $170 or so now.

Youtube Page LIVE

In case anyone was wondering, this is the reason why the site hasn’t really been updating as often as it should be…

With this launch video, Project Nailbat’s Youtube channel is now live! Stay tuned for more videos in the upcoming weeks!

E3 2012 Part 1: Microsoft Conference

Most of this conference revolved around either Halo 4, new games for the Kinect, or new games that involved the Kinect in some way or form. But the overall conference was filled with the usual ups and downs.  (though some would say that it had more downs than ups)

New Splinter Cell game: Splinter Cell: Blacklist – Now with Kinect. The new Splinter Cell game has you as Sam Ficher looking to prevent a terrorist group from assassinating key U.S. influences on what’s known as the Black List. Looks pretty hi-tech and even has Kinect playability

Another Gears of war Project: Judgement

Forza Horizon: Another Forza game that looks amazing and a cross between Need for Speed and Midnight Club with a touch of Burnout! Coming out at October this year

South Park RPG: It’s back! It looks amazing and even Matt Stone and Trey Parker appeared. It also looks like that you can use Jesus as a summon

Other games included:

LocoCycle: A cool looking motorcycle that apparently goes really fast

Wreckatere – Angry Birds Kinect

Matter: a Kinect Game with spherical looking companion cubes from Portal

Dance Central 3 was announced and it featured a performance by Usher after he announced that he had worked with Harmonix for two of the songs on the game, including his new single “Scream”

Stay tuned for more E3 goodness…or follow us on Facebook for live, on the spot blogging as we watch the conferences unfold.

Dead or Alive 5 Watch: Site Updated and More Characters

Earlier today, the Dead or Alive 5 site updated it’s site completely as well as added a new video of yet another stage and two more returning characters. The site is now outfitted with New pages, including an updated character roster, an up to date list of stages featured and more.

The new video shows Leifang vs Zack, this time fighting in the middle of a live circus as if they were the main attraction. The stage has at least two forms, the first surrounded by flaming rings of fire with random tigers leaping through them and across the stage (which you can knock your opponent into for extra damage) while the second has a cannon where you can throw and shoot your opponent out of for even more damage.

New Trailer For Dead or Alive 5: Two New Characters Revealed

Earlier today, a new trailer was released for Dead or Alive 5 revealing a new stage and two more characters in the upcoming game. The assassins Christie and Bayman are fighting in the new Hotzone stage, with is directly in the middle of a city riddled with soldiers, bullets and falling helicopters. Why would Christie and Bayman be fighting in the middle of a war zone is beyond guess, although if you actually care enough to know about DOA’s story, you wouldn’t fine it hard to believe.

After everything we’ve seen from the Alpha demo a few months ago, it’s nice to see more characters and a new stages that doesn’t seem to be as small as the previous two stages seemed before. Dead or Alive 5 is currently scheduled to come out September 2012

FFXIII-2 Additional DLC Episodes Due in May

Finally shifting their focus to something more than just additional outfits and looks that you can buy for Serah and Noel, This May, Final Fantasy XIII-2 will be getting even more episodic DLC released, expanding on the story of some of the other characters involved in the main storyline.Up first with an official release date is Snow. He’ll be getting his episode just like Sazh a few months ago, on May 15th, on the same day as the Valfodr Coliseum DLC. The episode is more than likely going to explain how he was traveling through time like Serah and Noel as well as how he managed to receive the mark of a L’Cie again. Sometime after that, will be an episode centering around Lightning’s final battle with Caius Ballad while the players controlled Serah and Noel during their own final battle. While Snow’s episode currently has no title, the Lightning episode is titled “Requiem of the Goddess”

There are still some more clothing DLC planned as well. Later on in the month, you can download a White Mage outfit for Serah and a Black Mage outfit for Noel.

This is still probably the coolest looking DLC outfit though. Mass Effect fans will agree

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royal

Either people who patrol the internet have way too much time on their hands just searching and finding out these web domains are taken, or game companies are doing a poor job keeping things like this under wraps. Not long ago, Sony has registered the domain [http://playstationallstars.com/]. The link now leads to a blank screen, but we do know that later this week, Sony is going to have an announcement of a new game so it’s all but certain that it’s going to be true.

The rumors are that this game, Playstation All-Stars Battle Royal is supposed to be Sony’s solution to Super Smash Bros. But with the game still not officially announced yet, all that can be done right now is speculate as to who exactly is going to be in this game. Here’s hoping that we get to see an army Sackboys fight the cast of Heavy Rain.

Super Mario…4?!

So does anyone remember about a year ago when we found out that Final Fantasy XIII was getting the X-2 treatment by Square Enix registering the online domain name finalfantasy13-2game.com? Well if it’s an indication to all but officially confirming a game is going to come out, then prepare yourselves because IGN discovered that Nintendo had recently registered an interesting domain name…[www.supermario4.com]!

As of right now going to the site redirects you to Nintendo.com‘s front page however, with the fact that Nintendo went out of it’s way to take the domain name before anything else, combined with the fact that Nintendo announced beforehand that it’s working on a new 2D Mario game, you can be sure that this is definitely going to come into existence.

Now let’s just hope that Nintendo doesn’t decide to  follow Sega’s example and have Mario’s fourth Super adventure be released in episodes unlike a certain blue hedgehog that we all know who has fallen on hard times during the past several years or so. (with MAYBE an exception to Sonic Generations…that game is actually pretty good.)
